San Diego Man Sentenced For Shooting a UCSD Professor
A San Diego man who shot and killed a UCSD Professor more than 14 years ago was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
David Hessler, who was 30 when he was shot and killed after he heard suspicious noises outside his University City home more than 14 years ago, Alvin Timbol was 19 at the time when he pulled the trigger. Now at 33 years old, after pleading guilty to second degree murder earlier this year he is sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison.
On November 14, 1995 around 2:00 a.m., Timbol and four other car thieves drove to Hessler’s neighborhood to steal computer equipment he had left in his Nissan Pathfinder. Hessler went outside after hearing noises, and was shot by Timbol as he leaned out of a speeding getaway car.
Timbol’s San Diego criminal defense attorney said “He had fired a single shot out of the window to ward off the victim.” Timbol was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison for this San Diego violent crime.
