Rancho Bernardo Suspected Bank Robbers Caught After Police Chase

A bank in the Rancho Bernardo area of San Diego was robbed Thursday, the suspected bank robbers led police on a chase that ended when San Diego police caught the two men fleeing on foot after jumping out of their car.

The San Diego theft crime occurred at the Rancho Bernardo branch of the U.S. Bank when the robber demanded money from the bank teller, according to police.

The thief escaped into a Jeep Cherokee getaway car driven by his accomplice with his undisclosed loot and fled onto the freeway. Officers got into a high speed chase shortly after seeing the SUV on State Route 163.

The SUV exited the freeway and led police through city streets before running over a spike strip that flattened their tires on Broadway and Buena Vista Avenue in Lemon Grove.

The suspected thieves then fled on foot but officers subdued them. The two men were arrested and taken into custody.
