East San Diego County Man Arrested on Suspicion of Robbing Dessert Shops

San Diego police arrested an East County man Tuesday in connection with several ice cream and yogurt shop robberies.

Jamel Powers, 24, was arrested at his home in El Cajon for a theft crime spree involving several ice cream and frozen yogurt stores. He has been dubbed as the “Ain’t No Joke Bandit by police.

According to Police, Powers would disguise himself as a college professor wanting to interview the managers of the stores. Once he was able to see the managers, he would tell them it was a robbery and then say “It ain’t no joke.”

“Once he arrived at the restaurant and conducted an interview with the manager, he would tell them it was a robbery and that persons outside would come in if they didn’t cooperate,” said SDPD Sgt. Corey Chesebrough.

Powers was taken into custody by San Diego police, and was booked on suspicion of eight counts of commercial burglary.
