Wife Taken into Custody After Allegedly Shooting Husband in La Mesa

A woman was arrested and taken in to custody on suspicion of shooting her husband, a former TV news director in their La Mesa home.

Donald M. Wells Jr., 55 was found lying on the floor of his home with a gunshot wound to his hip by San Diego police officers. A revolver was also found on a counter in the kitchen by officers.

Kalisa Wells, 59, a caterer and party planner was taken to jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to La Mesa police Lt Dan Willis.

The shooting occurred around 4:15 p.m. after an argument took place at the home of the couple in La Mesa on Sheldon Drive off of Vista Drive. Donald Wells was taken to a local hospital. His gunshot wound was said not to be life threatening.

The motive of the violent crime was unknown.

San Diego Man in Custody After Hammer Attack

A man who allegedly assaulted an elderly man with a hammer was taken into custody by San Diego police on Wednesday after an argument took place at a Park View Manor apartment complex in Banker’s Hill.

Dale Reed Bacon, 41, a handyman, is suspected of beating and hitting a 67 year-old residential property manager in the head with a hammer. The violent crime took place about 1:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Fifth Avenue. The two men who are roommates apparently got into an argument while trying to repair a refrigerator.

The elderly man who is known as “Joe” was taken to a local hospital where he remains in intensive care with severe injuries to his head, according to San Diego Police Department Sgt. Alan Hayward. .

Police arrested Bacon and booked him into county jail where he is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday in Downtown San Diego court on attempted murder charges. The case is also being investigated as an elder-abuse crime.

Grand Jury Indicts Former San Diego Chargers Quarterback on Drug and Burglary Charges

A grand jury has indicted a former quarterback for the San Diego Chargers on drug and burglary charges.

Ryan Leaf, 33, was charged Wednesday with one count of burglary to a dwelling, seven counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and delivery of a simulated controlled substance.

According to police Lt. Dale Davis, Leaf is suspected of stealing Hyrdrocodone, on October 30 from a Canyon, Texas apartment. The painkiller was prescribed to a football player who had been injured. “There were signs of a forced entry, a window in the back of the home was damaged,” said Lt. Davis.

Leaf has recently been in a drug treatment center in British Columbia. He has not yet returned to the United States, according to James Farren, Randall County criminal district attorney.

“We have not found any evidence implicating anyone other than Mr. Leaf in this case… but believe there’s additional evidence implicating him in other events,” said Farrin.

San Diego Man Fatally Shot Appears to be Gang-Related

A San Diego man that was fatally shot in the head in Logan Heights on Monday could be gang related, according to San Diego police.

Martin Omar De La Torre, 18, was pronounced dead at the San Diego crime scene in the 800 block of South 30th Street shortly before 6:15p.m on Monday. “The shooting is believed to be gang related. However, the specific motivation for the attack is not known at this time,” said Lt. Terry Mc Manus.

The victim was seen arguing with two other young Latinos just before the murder took place, according to Lt. Mc Manus.

San Diego homicide detectives are looking for the suspected shooter who was wearing a white T-shirt and a San Diego Padres baseball cap backward, a second suspect also was wearing a white T-shirt and had very short hair. Both suspects are believed to be between the ages of 18 and 20.

“A vehicle possibly involved in the shooting was located by patrol officers shortly after the incident,” Lt. McManus said. It has been impounded for evidentiary purposes and will be examined at a later date.”

San Diego Woman Arrested on Suspicion of Stealing From Fitness Center

A San Diego woman who was caught stealing items from a locker room at a popular fitness club was taken into custody on Wednesday; bail is set at $65,000, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The 36 year-old woman was working out at the Santee 24 Hour Fitness when she was arrested on theft charges. Police found her gym bag filled with stolen items that belonged to the members of the club. A $1,600 watch and a purse with $400 in cash were some of the items found in the bag. The thief devised a way to break into the lockers, while the members were working out.

More stolen goods, including jewelry, purses, expensive new clothes, and gift cards were found in the woman’s car and also at her home in Mira Mesa. The items were estimated to be about $20,000 in value.

The unidentified woman was brought to Las Colinas jail where she was booked on grand theft and possession of stolen property and suspicion of burglary.

East San Diego County Man Arrested on Suspicion of Robbing Dessert Shops

San Diego police arrested an East County man Tuesday in connection with several ice cream and yogurt shop robberies.

Jamel Powers, 24, was arrested at his home in El Cajon for a theft crime spree involving several ice cream and frozen yogurt stores. He has been dubbed as the “Ain’t No Joke Bandit by police.

According to Police, Powers would disguise himself as a college professor wanting to interview the managers of the stores. Once he was able to see the managers, he would tell them it was a robbery and then say “It ain’t no joke.”

“Once he arrived at the restaurant and conducted an interview with the manager, he would tell them it was a robbery and that persons outside would come in if they didn’t cooperate,” said SDPD Sgt. Corey Chesebrough.

Powers was taken into custody by San Diego police, and was booked on suspicion of eight counts of commercial burglary.

Chula Vista Stabbing Left Man in Serious Condition

A stabbing of a man in Chula Vista leaves him in serious condition, after police arrest an 18 year-old suspect, according to Chula Vista police.

The incident happened last Thursday just after 7:00 p.m. when police were notified that a 24 year-old man was attacked by several men at the intersection of Hilltop Drive and Orange Avenue.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with multiple stab wounds to his face and torso, said Chula Vista police.

The 18 year-old suspect of the Chula Vista violent crime later arrested by police at his home after witnesses gave them a license plate number of a car they saw drive away from the scene.

The unidentified suspect was taken into custody on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.

Man Arrested for Stabbing Sister’s Boyfriend in San Diego

In San Diego’s Golden Hill area a man was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of stabbing his 16 year-old sister’s boyfriend.

According to San Diego police, the incident occurred on Wednesday about 12:45pm in the 2800 block of Broadway. The 21 year-old stabbing suspect assaulted and threatened his sister’s 18 year-old boyfriend with a gun during an argument.

San Diego police officers were called in and arrested the attacker and recovered a gun he was carrying, said San Diego Police Department Sgt. Ray Battrick. The suspects name was not released.

The wounded victim was taken to the hospital where he was treated for abrasions and a cut finger, SGT. Battrick said.

Escondido Girl Stabbed By Teens in Serious Condition

Two teen girls were arrested on Sunday by Escondido police for the stabbing of a 14 year-old girl, police arrested another boy in connection with the stabbing today.

The girl called 911 from her home about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon and reported that she had been stabbed many times, according to the Escondido police.

When the police arrived at the girl’s home in the 700 block of Goldenrod Street they said she had multiple stab wounds to her upper body.

The victim was immediately taken to Palomar Medical Center, and then transferred to Rady Children’s Hospital, where she remains in serious condition.

Yesterday two 14 year-old middle school girls were arrested in connection with the violent crime. Today, police have taken another student, a 14 year old boy in custody in connection with the assault, their names have not been released because of their ages, according to Lt. Craig Carter.

The three middle school students who broke into the victim’s home where a home video game system was stolen are being held in juvenile hall on charges of suspicion of attempted murder, burglary and conspiracy.
