Chula Vista Teen Fatally Shot While Crossing Street

A teen was shot and killed while crossing a Chula Vista Street when a gunman opened fire from his car.

Fermen Garcia, 18, and another pedestrian were crossing the street in the 1400 block of Hilltop Drive just before 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday when a car approached them and opened fire, said the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office and Chula Vista police.

The two wounded men were taken to the hospital by paramedics. Garcia died shortly after arriving, the other victim, a 19 year-old male suffered a graze wound to the head, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Another man who was with the victims went into a nearby liquor store before the shooting occurred and escaped the violent crime.

The shooter was described as a Latino man with tattoos, wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt. He fled the scene in a silver sedan with tinted windows.

The motive for the shooting has not yet been released said, police spokesman Bernard Gonzales.
