San Diego Day Care Operator Accused of Molestation Pleads Not Guilty

A couple who operated a day care out of their San Diego apartment and are accused of molesting four children pled not guilty to 8 felony charges, including child abuse.

Anita Maria Kaczmarczyk, could be facing 60 years to life in prison if convicted. She is now in custody with bail set at $150,000.

Mark Lee Kaczmarczyk, 58, is awaiting extradition after being arrested last Sunday in Taiwan on child molestation charges. He is the husband of Anita Maria.

According to Deputy District Attorney Lucy Weismantel, an investigation took place after vaginal injuries were discovered in September of 2007 on one of the alleged victims. The molestations took place between June and September of 2007. The victims range in age from a few months old to just over 2 years old.

The defendants are being charged with four counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a child and a sentence enhancing allegation of multiple victims, along with child abuse.

A readiness conference is set for February 25th, and a preliminary hearing is set for March 4th For Anita Kaczmarczyk, according to Judge David Szumowski.

Mark Lee Kaczmarczyk told clerks at a shop that he wanted to open an English-language kindergarten in Taiwan. An undercover female Taiwanese agent who befriended the suspect found out where lived, and he was then arrested on molestation charges, the Taipei Times reported.
